Dean’s EI Week

This is for the week of 1/15/18. So, an update on my two internal job interviews. It turns out that 10 people applied to each one. I don’t think that I will get either but that is okay. Turns out, I might be working from home in a few months. There is more to it than that, but I was sworn to secrecy. It is very good news for me and my family though. So, even if I don’t get that Operation’s Specialist job, I’ll be okay. Money will be tight but that’s why I applied for SI for my son. He’s had a great week and was so tired yesterday that he fell asleep in my lap at 7pm. Poor kid!

1/15/18 – Speech

More eye contact, less spinning. Dean was seen at home with his grandfather. He sat for half of the session in his chair and put shapes in a shape sorter with help today. He enjoyed putting shapes on pegs. There was no spinning toys today, little mouthing and only jumped a little. Really nice eye contact today! Modeled more, on, oh, down.

  • Continue to model words with actions up, down, in, out.

1/16/18 – OT

Dean had a slight cold all weekend. He had a runny nose today. He did excellent today. Although initially eye contact was not as good as last week, he continues to make progress with functional play with toys. He likes ring stacker and wood stacker and can do independently. When only given 1 shape at a time for sorter, he was able to get “O” into correct shape 4/6 times! Also great attempts at pop beads putting together. Continues to pull apart independently 100% of the time. He LOVES the swing.

  • Swing as a reward/intermittently throughout the day.
  • Watch for tearing of nylon over door.

1/18/18 – OT

Dean had a tantrum this morning when getting out of swing. Per Mike, he was a little cranky when asked to work this morning, too. Dean did well 4/5 times today when told time to work come sit. He sat in chair given a gestural cue, too. The 5th time he needed to be placed into chair. Tolerated hand over hand for signing more – for everything today: toys, swinging, bubbles. Worked on straw drinking. He tended to spit out water when he got too much. Will bring valve next week to facilitate straw drinking.

  • Try to get him to point to desired item when giving him snack or drink.

My boy loves giving me kisses. lol. Anyways, I’ve been really good this month with getting a ton of posts up. Don’t expect it this much all the time. lol. I’m starting a college in the Fall hopefully so it would slow down then. I have so many posts that I want to do too which helps. If I get to work from home, I could actually write a blog post everyday instead of cramming in all of my posts on the weekend. I would also like to work 4 days a week, but we shall see. Working from home would save me so much time, plus gas.

With Love,
