QTT: My Beauty Ban Year Experiment

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

I have decided to devote QTT (Quick Tip Thursday) to my new beauty experiment: a beauty buy ban. I am not going to be buying any excessive beauty products for a whole YEAR. Yes, a whole year!!! QTT will be about resisting the temptation of buying products that you don’t need or not yet need. I knew that I could only do this type of ban if it was ll or nothing. A year is also a good experiment length of time and I know that it will be a trying time as well. I have decided that I needed a few rules to get started and that I can create more as I go along. Feel free to join me in my year beauty ban and let me know if you do in the comments! Okay…..so, here are the general rules of thumb:

  • No buying anything beauty related if you already have it at home.
    • Love that new soap? NEED IT NOW!
      • Nope, you still have a bar at home and you just bought two from your biyearly Lush haul.
        • Money Saved!
  • Finishing off a beauty product gives you a credit to buy another one of the same product.
    • Finished off a lip gloss and now I have a credit for a lip gloss.
      • SPARKLY! And, I can have it. SCORE!
  • Finishing off body wash does not qualify you for a credit if you already have bottles of it on your beauty shelf.
    • Same goes with lotion and body mist and body scrub.
  • I cannot buy any beauty product if I already have something like it.
    • No primer…you can buy one.
      • Night time lotion? You only need one kind of lotion and you have that nightly repair gel, so use that with your day time lotion.
    • The only exception is perfume: but you can only buy perfume, if you finish one off and earned a credit.
  • Finished off your stack of shower gels and one your last one?
    • You can binge buy a few if you are using a coupon and getting a great deal on it.
  • No frivolous purchases EVER!
    • It’s a henna tattoo kit!
      • No, you don’t have the skills to do tattoo work that could last months.

So, these are just a few rules that I have for my beauty ban, but I could always add more as I go along, if I feel the need to. This will be a weekly progress update and I’m starting today. It feels really liberating and hopefully saves me some cash to buy some of my resolutions like a car and home decor. I usually spend 100 USD a month on beauty. Now, I’m probably looking at 20 USD at the most. I could also be down playing this number, because I think that I buy a lot. Anyways, this is my big plan or the new year. So, should I change the name of QTT? I am thinking about renaming it NBT (No Buy Thursday)? Or is that too deceiving? It seems like I’m saying I don’t buy on Thursday. Opinions, please! Give a girl a hand. Thanks for reading! Are you planning on a different beauty plan this year? I’d love to hear about it.

With Love,

New Years Resolutions: 2015

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

I hope you all had a merry Christmas! I know that I did not do all 25 posts, so I will be making up all of these posts in the next week. My  posting schedule for the New Year will be three times a week. Anything more I do will be up to me, unless I am doing 40 Days of Lent, Julamorous, Octoberfest, or 25 Days of Christmas. I am definitely doing Sample Wednesday and possibly continue QTT for most weeks. The third post will be on the weekend for sure. I want to have a sure posting schedule, but I also want to be loose and spontaneous with it.

I am 100% dedicated to my blog, but it isn’t my whole life. I want to complete my apartment with furniture and decor by the end of this coming year. I want a new car by the end of 2015 as well. These are the things that I am working towards in my job. I also want to complete one of the books that I am working on and be published.

I want to lose 30lbs and have my slim stomach back again. I have gained so much weight this year from hormonal issues and I’m trying to be healthier but its hard. I don’t eat a lot of junk, but wacky hormones caused me to gain 30lbs. This may be TMI, but I have only had two periods this year and one of them was chemically induced. My body just decided to stop functioning normally. I hope the new year sees a healthier me. My doctors say that I might be developing into Crohn’s Disease, since I have been experiencing the more hallmark features like weight gain, hormonal changes, and depression. I just haven’t felt that great this year, but 2015 will be better.

I will make it better. I have so many plans and intend to stick to them. I have so many people who love and support me. How can I not have the best year ever? Thank you to all of my viewers and follows out there for supporting me and leaving me encouraging comments. It means the world to me. I have two exciting small giveaways coming up soon in the new year. One will be a small beauty giveaway and the other will be a lightly used book that I have loved. Both will have creative contests for you guys to enter. So look for it in the coming posts.

A Lush Bath In Pictures: Northern Lights

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

Just a quick few words about these pictures. This is a time lapse of a few seconds to a few minutes for the bath bomb. I used a quarter of the bath bomb for my bath. I might use half next time, but I think that a quarter was plenty enough for my tub. See the results below. Have a Happy Christmas Eve!!!

Dream Books Rant: A Seller On Amazon

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

I promise that I am not always this negative or unlucky. I bought Nancy Drew Double Dare 2 from Dream Books Company. I was super excited when it came in way earlier than expected. It was a nice surprise! The bad? When I opened up the package, it was only the outside sleeve with a cardboard casing inside and the discs were in paper sleeves. I shrugged it off and decided to put them in my computer anyway. I mean, I did buy them used. Well, when the run box came up, it said that the source was “unknown” and not from “Her Interactive” like it usually says. Then, the games would not download, because my system was not compatible. However, I have Windows 7, which is compatible with even the first ever Nancy Drew game. So, I knew that these discs were frauds. It possibly didn’t have any game content to download. At this point, I am very disappointed, so I contact the company about sending different discs or a refund. I hear nothing for THREE DAYS. Once I filed a claim, they had responded and refunded my account in TWO HOURS. They also told me not to send the games back to them. I think that the fact that they did not want the games back is evidence that they knew they were sending fraudulent games to customers. I cannot condone their business practices, so I wanted to warn all of you here. Their seller profile can be found HERE. Please, boycott this seller! I would not recommend buying anything from them, if you are looking for quality items.

First Impressions: MJCARE (Sample Wednesday Came Early)

For MJCARE Sea Weed Essence Mask

wpid-wp-1418507006161.jpeg

What it is: A sheet mask soaked in essence that is supposed to make skin elastic, moisturized, clear, and relaxed (They make the same claim no matter the product/type of mask).

Key Ingredients: The Good: water, algae extract, aloe leaf extract, witch hazel, and a handful of vitamins. The Bad: fragrance, propylparaben, and methylparaben. Also, I want to know if this is made in North or South Korea, before I repurchase it.

How it feels/smells/looks: The sheet mask has a light delicate scent that disappears once it sits on your face for a bit. When you first put on the mask, it feels slimy and cooling. It feels very relaxing as well. It makes me look like a masked serial killer though. Lol. I had a lot of fun with this highly moisturizing mask. It is a time commitment though, because some weekends, I just do not have two hours to unwind and relax. For me, it takes that long for my skin to absorb all of the goodness.

Why I love it: I may not love how long the process takes, but I love how relaxed this mask makes me feel. I feel like this mask really did relax me bumped up the clarity of my skin and without a doubt, made my skin moisturized without being oily. It depuffed my skin, but plumped up my skin in a really good way. My skin did not get oily that day or the day after. On a whole, I would say that my skin was less oily on average that week, which is a vast improvement. Next time I watch a movie, I will definitely pop on another one of these face masks.

Santa Came Early: A Lushie Surprise

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

I promised you a Lush haul and I promise to deliver! I bought a total of 12 things. Yes, twelve! Like the 12 days of Christmas, of course! When Dani, suggested that I buy from the UK Lush site, I never imagined that it would allow me to buy double of what I wanted to buy. The USD really goes a long way in England. Apparently it is worth double in Lush goodies, so instead of only being able to afford 6 of them, I got my fair pick of twelve. Are you ready to see what I got yet? I am super excited to be showing my stash to you. Bare with me though, because I still have that cold, so I may change my mind about certain scents later on. This is me trying to describe them to the best of my ability.

Snow Fairy Shower Gel

Snow Fairy Shower Gel

No Christmas Haul at Lush is complete with a bottle of Snow Fairy. How can you resist taking her home with you? It combines two of my most favorite things: Faeries and candy floss. This is really a sweet shop smell, but I do not find it overpowering whatsoever. It smells very strongly of sweet bubble gum, which I quite enjoy. I wish that the iridescence was evenly mixed throughout the bottle. It settled on the bottom a bit and totally missing from the first 1/3 of the product. The bottom 2/3rs of the bottle has a nice quantity of sparkle. This is not everyone’s cup of tea or coffee, but I can see myself repurchasing the huge bottle next year. That is how much I love the scent. You can gift it to me. wink, wink

So White Shower Gel

So White Shower Gel

I believe that this is a new addition to this year’s collection and I am hoping that they are going to be bringing it back next year. I absolutely love Victoria Secret’s Total Flirt, which is more of a sweet floral apple blossom scent that they came out with this pass summer. (On a side note, I hope they bring it back in 2015. I am currently using this scent in my shower and using the matching body butter. The scent was right for summer, but body butter is much too heavy for my skin in the summer. It became a winter scent for me.) So White smells more apple-y like fresh cut green Granny Smith apples. They are sweet but a bit sour, just like this scent. I love the slight shimmer to the green tinged white gel. It really resembles swirling snow, but it is also very thin and watery compared to the other thick gels. If they do bring it back, I would like to see it in the thicker formula of the other shower gels.

Hot Toddy Shower Gel

Hot Toddy Shower Gelgolden shimmer

I love this scent and will be buying this in the huge bottle as well. I wont have to buy shower gel anywhere else if I get those huge bottles. This smells just like cinnamon heart candies, except more powerful. I can definitely smell the cloves which is nice. The ginger gives it a bit of a sweet smell, but this is a far cry from Snow Fairy in terms of sweetness. Hot Toddy has beautiful gold shimmer in the bottle that settled heavily on the bottom of the bottle. The shimmer makes it look like the Ruby Red Slippers from The Wizard of Oz. Otherwise, the coloring looks like the glaze on a candy apple. I think that it would be better without the gold glitter, since it seemed to be a fail with all of it settling at the bottom and all.

Rose Jam Shower Gel

Rose Jam Shower GelRose jam

Honestly? This smells like old lady to me and not in a good way. I’m hoping that this will smell better in the shower, but if I cannot stand the smell. I will be gifting this to one of my friends who would appreciate it. It doesn’t expire until 2016, so I think that I will try it way before then and see what I think of it. I am not in a hurry to use it. I want to finish up a few things in my shower first before I bust out my Lush ones. I might just save them for bubble baths though. They work really well that way. I heard that you can also use them as shampoos. I bought a shampoo bar though and I feel strange using shower gel as shampoo. I think that I might use a tad of show fairy with my conditioner to make it smell nice, but not to cleanse it.

Baked Alaska Soap

Baked Alaska SoapBaked Alaska Soap

This soap looks super cool, first of all! I love the colors and the fruit slices. It seems like this soap would be very moisturizing as well, since it is very soft soap that melts in your hands a bit. I love the citrus scent and the fruitiness! This scent is not sweet at all. It is very much a strong citrus scent and very tart. I can almost taste the scent on my tongue…almost. It is a very bodied scent, which is a good thing in my book. I would chop up this soap into small pieces, so that it would not melt away in the shower. I believe that Lush’s harder soaps do not need to be cut up as much, because they would last a lot longer. I think they would only have to be cut into your hand size. It also has this soft white coating over half of the soap. I guess, that is where the “baked Alaska” comes into play.

Fairy Ring Soap

Fairy Ring Soap

I like the earthy scent of this one and the fact that it was made from mushrooms. It is not a bad earthy dirt scent either. It is a nice patchouli scent and a citrus quality to it as well. I am unsure if the citrus is from the Baked Alaska or not, since they were shipped together. Once I use the soap (Once I am done with my HUGE bar of Fresh Grapefruit Soap, which could take me a few months since each shower/bath that I take I rotate from soap/shower gel/body scrub/Lush Shower Jelly.), I will be able  to unveil it’s true scent, at least to my nose. It is a heavy soap and I enjoy the coloring on it as well.

Holly Golightly Bubble Bar

Holly Golightly Bubble Bar

I was super disappointed that the silver luster coating got on EVERYTHING and that there was very little remaining on the actual bar. After I got through that disappointment, the scent is absolutely amazing and I hope that they bring this back again next year. It smells like fresh pine and spruce mixed with some warming cinnamon notes. I also smell a hint of cloves, which makes sense really, because cinnamon and cloves are great scents that really go great together, especially in pumpkin pie. This is supposed to turn your bath water bright green and produce mounds of white bubbles. I hope my bubbles are green though. That would be interesting.

The Christmas Penguin Bubble Bar

The Christmas Penguin Bubble Bar

When Dani mentioned that she bought this little guy, I had to buy him as well. He is so cute! How could I have resisted him? He smells very calming and fresh. I am sensing that it smells like orange flowers, which gives it that sweet fresh floral scent and a bit citrus-y as well. This is not as overwhelming as the Baked Alaska Soap for those you with sensitive snouts. I like the smell of this one and I would use it when I’m in a bubbly want to relax type of mood. I think this would go great with a book and a glass of Peniot.

Christmas Eve Bubble Bar

Christmas Eve Bubble Bar

This produces a light green tint to the water with plenty of bubbles from what I see from others pictures of it. I like the smell of this one. It has Jasmine in it, which I love to death. I have so many goodies that I cannot wait to try! It is just so exciting! We are getting done to the last bits now. With my stuffed nose, it is hard to smell anything else but the calming jasmine scent. I will be using this for a soak on Christmas Eve for sure. I’ll probably use half of the bar to treat myself. I plan on using the other half after a hard day at work.

Cinders Bath Bomb

Cinders Bath BombCinders Bath Bomb

I love the pop rock candy on the top of the bath bomb. I used the bottom half, so I have yet to hear the famous crackle of the fire. This is very spicy and warming to the senses, but also very nutty as well. I gravitated towards similar scents this year: all sweet smells and then all spicy scents. There is just something about this time of year that makes these unlikely scents go together. Probably the scents of sweets by the fire where the Christmas tree stands or something similar to that anyway.  This is a large bath bomb. I would guestimate it to be as large as Butterball.

Northern Lights Bath Bomb

Northern Lights Bath BombNorthern Lights

I am sad that this bath bomb broke in half, but I broke it further into a fourth. This swirled and traveled through my tub leaving behind shea butter stars that melt once it hits your skin. This was a very moisturizing bath bomb, but also very fun to watch. It turned my bath a bright, deep pink. I will be up loading a quick post after this of my Lush Bath in Pictures. I love the clean cut smell of Jasmine. What can I say?

Jason & The Argan Oil Solid Shampoo Bar

Shampoo Bar

The scent is just like Rose Jam, so I am not really into it. I look forward to using it  and seeing if it really does make my hair shinier and fuller. It is made for thin hair that just hangs limb like mine usually does. It can do 80 shampoos per bar, so I know that I will be getting roughly 6 months worth of shampoo since I only was it 3 times a week at most, usually I wash it twice. My hair gets oily at the roots, but I learned the curve. Now, I can style my hair the day after I wash it and the second day. For the third day, a pony tail looks fresh or a braid and a bun is a must for the fourth. I hope that with this bar, it might make my hair last longer between washes with maybe a third day of style-able hair. I will report back. I want to point out the fact that I do bathe everyday, though I mostly do baths to keep fresh. I want to try rinsing my hair at the end of the second day to see if that will freshen up my hair without adding shampoo, maybe some conditioner on the ends though. I might do a post on it.

Well, that is everything that I bought at Lush and my last Lush haul for the year. What do you guys think? Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments section below. What should I try out of my stash next? Oh! And also be on the lookout for a small giveaway in the coming days/weeks. I’m working on organizing it. I cannot give away really expensive things, but I have collected a few bits and bobs that I can give away to my followers. Since I hit over 200 followers, I thought that I would reward you guys with a giveaway. I have decided to do giveaways for follower milestones. So, for ever 100 that I get, I will do a give away. The milestones of 500 and 1,000 will see an expensive giveaway to show just how grateful I am for all of you. So, if you want to see more giveaways in the future, urge others to hit the follow button. I will be doing another giveaway in January or February since I have 200, so that means 2 giveaways in the near future! YAY!

QTT: A Nose In Need Deserves A Lush Bath

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

It is that time of year again!

Eve: What year is that mom? Serena: Yeah, mom. What year is that?
Eve: What year is that mom?
Serena: Yeah, mom. What year is that?

Yes, you named it: flu season. While I do not believe that I have the flu, I am under the weather with a cold (stuffy nose and sore throat). What I discovered yesterday is that two products from Lush clears up the sinuses before bed in no time. I used half of a Cinders Bath Bomb and the combination of the scent/steam really unclogged my nose, while Hot Toddy in the shower cleared it further. I could actually BREATH through my nose. I was amazing! I’m gonna use some Hot Toddy as a bubble bath, since it is a lot stronger than Cinders. I am going to post up my Lush haul this weekend, so you all can see everything that I bought. Do not worry, it is coming. I’m thinking that I might add an extra post tomorrow about my first impression about the new Kindle Fire. What do you guys think? And as always, thanks for reading Quick Tip Thursday, where I write a tip and a small little rant each week.

With Love,

2014 Winter Essentials Tag

Heya Aspiring Gurus!

I was looking to do something different today. I just wasn’t feeling the Sample Wednesday series. I was in the mood of doing a Christmas-y post and the lovely Cos from The World of Cos tagged me for the Winter Essentials Tag. So, thank you again for tagging me for this wonderland tag. wink I’ve been looking forward to reading her Facial Friday posts week after week. She tries something new every week, so if you are into facial masks, you should definitely check out her blog.

1. What is your ultimate party season lip product?

Miranda Ker

Hmmm…This is a hard one to start out with, but I think that I am into the berry lip for the winter time. I just think that your classic red is too predictable or safe for the Christmas season. I think a nice berry shade shakes things up and is very on trend at the same time. On the other hand, I am also really loving the nude lip trend and if I have to be honest with myself, I’m probably going to be doing the nude lip more often than the berry.

2. What is your winter Essential Product?

Lip scrub

My winter essential product would have to be my Lush Mint Julips Sugar Lip Scrub. The combination of winter air and indoor heating brings dryness to my delicate pucker. I like to exfoliate my lips every morning with this minty scrub. The tingly cool peppermint is very refreshing on my lips and it allows a smoother application of lipstick or lip stain. The worst is having blotchy lip color from dry, flaky lips.

3. What are you most hoping to see under the Christmas Tree?

Christmas Tree

I am not picky when it comes to Christmas presents. What I am looking for under the tree are some new books, perfume, and games. The guys in my life are not very beauty educated, so I doubt there will be any beauty products. I am hoping for more computer games and books though. There are so many things that I like and I love being surprised when I finally unwrap those presents underneath the Christmas tree.

4. Name one beauty essential that is never missing from your bag during colder months?

Hand Cream

One beauty essential that is never missing from my bag would be hand lotion. I am really into the Figs & Rouge brand at the moment. The mango hand lotion that I have smells absolutely amazing and keeps my hands perfectly moisturized during the dry hand season. I don’t know why, but this season is being especially hard on my hands. I swear they never used to be this dry before, but this hand cream is doing wonders.

5. What are your winter weather skincare saviors?

facial moisturizerButter glosswpid-wp-1418506955134.jpeg

I have a few winter weather skincare saviors that are really that amazing. For facial hydration, it would have to my Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel, which is a holy grail of mine. I love my NYX  Butter Gloss to keep my lips perfectly happy, but it also smells like Sugar Cookies! Finally, all the new sheet masks that I have bought are guaranteed to kick up my skin’s moisture barrier. I even use the excess serum on my neck and hands.

6. What is winter going to smell like this year?

Online Pic
Online Pic

It will be smelling of Peppermint Mocha by Coffeemate. I love this stuff. Add a little whipped cream and a candy cane and I will call it a powerhouse coffee. I love the Holidays with its themed drinks!

7. Is the Berry eye the new Berry lip?

Internet Pic
Internet Pic
Online Pic
Online Pic

No, not even close. A berry eye looks overdone, but a berry lip can look effortless.

8. What are you greatest winter indulgences?

peppermint bark

If it is not obvious by now, my favorite winter treat is peppermint bark and candy canes. I cannot get enough. I eat York peppermints the rest off the year, but nothing can beat homemade peppermint bark. I need to make it all year round. Don’t they look yummy?

9. Lush Christmas? Your top pick?

It would have to be Snow Fairy all the way! I just love the sweet shop smell! AH! I cannot get enough. It smells delicious and if they made food that tastes the way it smells, I would buy it for sure. I actually recently bought this and have yet to take a picture. Is it just me or is this scent to die for? I guess that is why they bring it back year after year.

10. Name one (or more) random winter essential.

wpid-wp-1418507064236.jpeg

I have to agree with Cos on this one, sheet masks are my essentials.

Well, that is it for me! I would like to tag Dani and anyone else who would like to do this tag. If you are reading this and have not done this tag yet, why the HELL NOT?! lol.

With Love,

Selena Hannah xoxoxo
