Makeup Inventory: Face Powders

I also have an obsession with highlighters in case you haven’t noticed. I love a good glow and am trying to find out an excuse to buy the Anastasia Aurora Glow Kit. Yeah, first world problems over here. I don’t have an overabundant amount of highlighter, so I am going to combine this category with blush. I don’t always remember to wear blush, but when I do I really enjoy it. Most mornings, I’ll only highlight or I only use blush. I mostly highlight though I try to go back and forth. In the fall, I’ll probably use blush again.

Highlighter: 12

I’d like to cut down this stash to 6 highlighters, so I intend to use up quite a few mini tubes of highlighter. I included the ones in my pallets. I don’t want to forget about them. I have a nice dip going in my Bareminerals powder highighter. I like the three highlighters in my Smashbox pallet, but they are a bit too glittery for my taste. I want to use one up next year completely. They are great to use in the summer for a really nice glow. I prefer the powder and liquid highlighters for work that are a little bit more natural and just a gleam instead of a beam.

Blushes: 12

I think I can use up two blushes if I set my mind to it by January. I don’t use a ton of blush and I don’t use it very often. I want to make more of an effort to use up my blushes. I think I can use up the Tarte blush from the Sephora birthday present this year and possibly the mini Josie Maran cheek gel. Blush isn’t something I really go out at boy, the pallets being the exception to this rule. I’m not a big blush fan, so I’m happy with only having a few on hand. I look forward to hitting pan on some of these blushes.

Bronzer: 4

The only bronzer I have is in pallet form. I want to use up these bronzers before buying anymore. All of them are really great for my fair complexion. Some of them do pull a little orange on me, but I still find them workable. I would like to hit pan on one of these by January. I am really loving the Hourglass one, so I think I might hit pan on that one. Every season, I switch out my makeup and concentrate on a new batch in my collection. I think I will breakout this pallet for the Fall. It feels very Fall to me.

I have 28 face powders that I want to use up and I forgot that the Hourglass pallet has a big face powder in it. So, I should be all set for face powder for a while. Once I use up my loose powders, I will be using this pressed one or I might just take a break in the fall and use this whole pallet for a consistent three months. I’m sure I won’t use up the whole thing in three months. I’m interested in seeing how far I get with it though.

Makeup Inventory: Intro

I have decided to do a makeup inventory twice a year: one in January and one mid way through the year around June/July/August. This will help to keep my beauty spending in check and help me see how my makeup is being collected and used up. I have already inventoried my nail polish, lotion, perfume, and skin care backups in Youtube videos and on my blog here. Next year, I’m going to do it in this style where I just do photos and break everything down by categories. In January, I will be inventorying my perfume collection including samples, body products including lotion, sprays, and body gels, nail polish, skin care backups in storage (not currently being used), hair products, and everything makeup.

I will be breaking down my makeup collection by type: lip products, blushes, highlighters, bronzers, face powders, eye shadows, and the like. Some categories are really small so I will combine them with another. This is my complete makeup collection. I don’t keep makeup in my purse. I keep makeup in a small Ipsy bag and I put that into any bag I have. It’s products that I use at my desk at work and such. I emptied that bag and included the items. Like I said, this is going to be my complete collection.

I don’t have a huge collection of makeup, but I really hope to build it up to include other items that I want. I basically only buy makeup three times a year: tax season, my birthday, and Christmas. I usually spend around $50 to $100 every time on makeup exclusively. I don’t like having a huge collection. I really feel like what I have right now is manageable and I’m looking to use them up to replace them with some new goodies.

Pan That Pallet Update #5

It is the fifth month into my Pan That Pallet Challenge for 2017, since I started a month late. I am very proud of how much I was able to use up in eye products so far this year when I only use eye products on the weekend/days off. I’m also not always consistent with that, especially during the summer. I have an pool where I live. Sundays are usually pool days as long as the weather is nice. So, I’ll probably be outside for a few hours today. The most I can get with my son is three hours. So, I’m eye shadow free today, just a liquid lip and that’s it. When it gets cooler out aka not bathing suit weather, I’ll be getting more use out of my shadows. Here’s my progress this month:

As you can see, I hit pan on Sunrise, which I knew was going to happen last month. I want to hit pan on two more shadows to call this project a success. I want to hit pan on the peachy pink Sunlight and Totally Nude. Once I hit pan on these shades, I’m going to see if I can use up one shadow completely by the end of the year. Like I said, I’ll be happy with hitting pan on two more shades. I’m still working on the creams, so far no pan but I do have some finger dips in them. I really love the mauve blush on the bottom left hand corner. It looks super natural on me unlike the middle one which is a little too pink. The middle will be great for the winter for that fresh from outside flush. I’m really enjoying this pallet and glad I’m getting use out of the shades I love.

Next year, I’m going to work on my singles and trios. I’d much rather work from an eye shadow pallet than from singles and such. I’m thinking about buying the White Chocolate Chip pallet from Too Faced during the VIB sale in November. I  might not though. I feel like I have WAY too many eye products right now. I want to just have this pallet and mascara. Once I go through all my other eye shadows, I will buy an eye shadow pallet. It’s so hard to find a good one with lighter colors though…

ICE *Day 26*

For Dentyne ICE in Peppermint

gum

They say it is:

an artificially flavored sugar free gum.

They are normal looking white square/rectangle pieces. They smell sweet like candy canes, that kind of peppermint and now that I really think about it, they taste like candy canes, too. They keep my breath fresh for forty minutes after chewing, which I find to be longer lasting than having an altoid. When I am in the mood for breath freshening gum, I reach for Dentyne, because I used to be obsessed with this brand of gum when I was younger. I tried every single kind and back then, they came in weird names like Fire & Ice. I remember also being obsessed with Listerine strips and those liquid bubble mints. Those were the days, huh? Was anyone else obsessed with these items?

Peter Cotton Tail *Day 25*

For Swisspers 100% Cotton Rounds

cotton pads

It is advertised as:

100% natural cotton rounds, safe for sensitive skin.

These cotton rounds are soft, but strong. They do not fall apart in your hands or leave bits of cotton on your face. I used these rounds to apply my cleansing water in the morning. I would buy these again. I like that these rounds hold up to the challenge that is skincare, while still being soft and pillowy. I will be buying them again. I am on my last pack of these. I bought a three pack and my dad threw out the last pack before it could be an empty.

French Roast *Day 24*

For Gevalia Kaffe French Roast

It is advertised as:

A full-bodied, intensly dark, and complex coffe made with 100% Arabica coffee.

I love the scent of coffee and I like it rich, dark, and bitter. This coffee tastes a bit bland to be honest and I think Dunkin’ Dark has more body and flavor. It wasn’t terrible coffee by any means, it just had very little flavor to it. I feel like it is watered down tasting. It is hard to describe, but the dark, sharp, bitter taste just isn’t there. I love tasting coffee. I enjoy the differing bitter taste. This had no bite to it. No flavor. I wouldn’t buy this flavor again.

How do you like my new review style?

Secrets Out *Day 23*

For Victoria’s Secret Hydrating Body Lotion in Love Spell

hand cream

What It Is:

A body lotion offering enriching moisture and a sensuous fragrance of cherry blossoms, peach, and white jasmine.

Key Ingredients:

Water, glycerin, petrolatum, cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, fragrance, aloe leaf juice, apple fruit extract, oat meal extract, grape seed extract, benzly alcohol, methyl paraben, polyparaben.

How It Smells/Feels/Looks:

The scent is nauseating to me. It leaves a sticky feeling on my hands and takes a long time to sink ion. It is a white lotion with no shimmer in it.

Why I Dislike It:

I used this up, because I have about 100 (okay more like 30) body lotions and I don’t like to see anything go to waste. That being said, I did not find this hydrating at all. I used this on my hands during work and I’m not satisfied. It was like putting sticky sunscreen on my hands. My hands were sticky and shiny with no extra hydration. I was glad to use it up just so I wouldn’t have to use it again. I’ll have to dig through my stash for another mini lotion to use at my desk. I’m currently using a foil sample.

Baby Vitamins *Day 22*

For Enfamil Liquid Vitamins A, C, & D Supplement TrViSol

Vitamins

What It Is:

A multivitamin for breastfed infants.

Key Ingredients:

Glycerin, water, Vitamin A, D3, ascorbic acid

How It Smells/Looks/Tastes:

It is a brown colored liquid that smells like Twizzlers and tastes like red licorice rope from when I was a kid.

Why Dean Didn’t Like It:

He hated the taste of this liquid multivitamin. He is now on a different brand and doesn’t have a problem taking it. If your child doesn’t like this vitamin, try a different brand. I didn’t think that it would make a difference and it does. Nothing against this brand, though. My child just doesn’t like it.

granola

What It Is:

A crunchy granola bar.

Key Ingredients:

Whole Grain oats, sugar, canola oil, rice flour, honey, salt, brown sugar syrup.

How It Smells/Tastes/Looks:

It looks like two pieces of thin granola bars and they smell like granola and honey. It also tastes like granola and honey. I enjoyed the crunchy texture. Crunching is very satisfying to me for some reason.

Why I Like It:

It is a healthy and satisfying snack that I really enjoy once in a while. I like to have it as a pick me up with 11 grams of protein. It is my “meat” for the day.

July Birchbox *Day 20*

I know that I’m late to the party with my July Bircbox unboxing, but better late than never right? I have to say that I was not impressed with what I received this month. I hope August will be a better month or sadly, I will be unsubscribing. I was very uninspired, even though this month’s box was very pretty. Let’s get into it.

At least, I have heard of all of the brands in my box before. Four out of five of my products, but one is a perfume and those are always a pretty penny to begin with.

TOCCA Wau de Parfum in Bianca, 0.05 fl oz for $1.70 USD

Let’s just start off with the perfume then,. I love the Tocca hand creams, so I thought that I would love this citrusy perfume as well. I don’t hate it, but I don’t want to purchase it either. It is a nice light floral perfume, but I wouldn’t call it citrusy. It needs more citrus, but I will wear it. It’s a pretty perfume, but nothing special. I feel like I’ve already smelt it/owned/own a perfume similar to this one. The sample is in a glass vial. I wish it had a sprayer on it, but it is more generous than most perfume samples that I get usually.

shampoo

Davines MINU Shampoo, 2.5 fl oz for $7.80 USD

I enjoy trying out shampoos, but it isn’t exciting or anything. This one is light blue in color and is for color treated hair, which is what my hair is right now. Color treated, not light blue. It is supposed to have a citrus scent, but it smells more minty/menthol to me. I love it when my scalp tingles from menthol shampoos, so if this one does that, at least I’ll be happy with this sample. It is a generous shampoo sample as well.

Conditioner

Davines MINU Conditioner, 0.40 fl oz for $3 USD BONUS

This was my bonus extra this month. The matching foil packet of conditioner. The conditioner is white and does smell fruity with a bit of citrus. I like the scent of the conditioner more than the shampoo. Not much else to say about this one without trying it.

Cargo Blush & Bronzer Duo in Catalina & Medium, 3.2 g for $3 USD

I love the blush shade! It’s such a pretty Barbie doll pink, but the bronzer has a ton of shimmer and I prefer my bronzers to be matte. I love shimmer highlighters and blushes, but I don’t want my whole face to be shimmering. I kinda wish that they would have made the blush shimmery and the bronzer matte. That being said, I will be finding this product a new home. I love the blush, but I’m not going to give someone else half a compact. That would be rude. I also wish that I just got the blush and it was full pan. I hate these half pan things. It makes it difficult to even use the product that you do like.

Scrub

dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion, 0.25 fl oz for $7.15 USD

I love the Pores No More product from this brand, so I’m sure that I’ll love this scrub as well. The small tube makes it easy to take with you while traveling or fit into a small spot in your shower. I love it. The product itself is probably very good. I think I’ve had the microdermabrasion scrub before and that was really nice and finely milled. I’m hoping that I’ll love this one as well. I love scrubs, so I’m glad I got one from a high end brand that I enjoy.

mascara

Marcelle Xtension Plus Curl Mascara, 0.15 fl oz for $7 USD

So, this is a little more than half of the full sized tube, so that makes me happy. I am into curling my lashes, since I already have length and volume with my lashes naturally. I’m excited to see if this makes them curl more. Hopefully, this won’t flake on me, which is my usual problem with most mascaras. I will be trying this as soon as I finish up my Urban Decay mascara. I don’t like to have more than one tube open at a time. Maybe, I’ll make an exception, since UB is my weekend/day off mascara. It is way too dramatic for work.

I am only excited for two items out of five, which isn’t very good. I have had an amazing two months of samples, so I’m hoping that August will redeem this box. I am always happy with the value of my boxes, which this month is over 28 USD.
