11 Questions Tag

Heya Fellow Gurus!

I was reading this same post from http://shadowdancerx.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/11-questions-tag/ and I decided that I would answer her questions. I love doing fun tags like these, so if anyone reading this does a lot of tags, make sure you tag me. I would love to do more! I will add my own 11 questions at the end and I am specifically tagging Danielle from http://daniellec1992.wordpress.com/ to answer my questions to keep the tag moving along. Now, onto the tag!

1. What is your favorite makeup brand?

Selena: I have a few favorites in my stash, but the one brand that I keep going back to is Maybelline New York for affordable, quality makeup and The Body Shop for higher end make up. I do want to try out Mac to see what all the fuss is about, but I have yet to buy anything from them. I’m not usually a high-end makeup buyer, unless I have coupons for Clinique or if there is a sale going on.

2. What is the best gift you received?

Selena: I would have to say that the best gifts I have received was a gorgeous cat for my 11th birthday and my lovely Chihuahua for Christmas in 2008. My cat was the cheapest gift for 20 US DOLLARS, but caring for animals are always expensive. My dog was 350 at a shelter, but she had all her shots and was fixed. They are my babies in my life right now and I love them dearly.

3. What book would you recommend I read next?

Selena: I don’t really know what kinds of books you read, so I will pick a Chick Lit book that I am really loving at the moment. I am reading Just Listen by Sarah Dessen and am loving it. Dessen creates such heartwarming stories out of tragedies. I love her writing and need to read every one of her books. I think I’ve read three or four so far.

4. What is your favorite shampoo and conditioner?

Selena: Since I am on the hunt for sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners, these might not be my favorites for long. As a complete shampoo and conditioner set, I really love TRESemme and Herbal Essence. As shampoo and conditions that can be from different brands, my go to shampoo and conditioner that I am using right now is Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo With Hawaiian Ginger and Wen by Chaz Dean in Sweet Almond Mint for a conditioner.

5. Describe your favorite outfit.

Selena: Well, my favorite outfit hanging in my closet right now for the summer is a cute summer dress from Kmart from the Selena Gomez Dream Out Loud Line. It is color blocked with a grey tee-shirt and turning into a wonderful, colorful flouncy skirt on the bottom with a flower pattern. If it’s a bit colder out, I’ll pair it with a white faux leather vest with punk studs and very fitted design. I love it, because it adds a bit of edge to the girly ensemble. The vest is from Forever21. I pair this off with an oversized pink chain necklace with pink beads and fake diamonds. For shoes, I’ll wear my white and black striped zebra sneakers with a 2 inch hidden heel with blue accents and pink laces. The shoes add major edge, but playfulness to my vibe. My personal style sense is Girly Punk or Girly Edge. I like creating my own fashion sense.

6. Do you have a lot of shoes? How many shoes do you own?

Selena: Yes, I have a lot of shoes, but I feel like I need a few more pairs. I own 2 pairs of sneakers, 3 pairs of sandals, 1 pair of knockoff Uggs, 2 pairs of heels, and 4 pairs of boots. So, that is 12 pairs of shoes total. I might be missing a pair or two, but I think I might have spring cleaned them.

7. What are your favorite stores for shopping (for anything)?

Selena: Well, my favorite stores are Ocean State Job Lot for anything is counted in beauty that I know I’ll use up before the expiration date, Kmart for those necessary purchases, clothing, shoes, and makeup; Forever 21 for clothes, accessories, and the other little items they carry; The Body Shop for certain body products, Bath & Body Works for candles, Barnes & Nobles for books since I always have gift cards, Lush for soaps and cleansers, and finally, Victoria Secrets because who doesn’t like free underwear?

8. Do you have pets? If so tell me a little about them.

Selena: I live with four animals, but only own two. I have my British short-haired cat named Shadow, who is ten years old, but still acts like a kitten. I also own a dog named Serena from Gossip Girl and she is 5 years old. I bought her from a shelter, but she was originally from Puerto Rico. I rescued her at 7 months old. She’s such a cute little thing with big bulgy green eyes, but has horrid breath. I bought her with dental problems that we have been working on. I’ve been brushing her teeth for a year every day and now most of the plaque build up is gone, but there still seems like some just won’t ome off. She might need dental cleansing from the vet in a few years if it keeps up. Here are some pics to enjoy!

9. Do you prefer lipstick, lip gloss, lip stain, or lip balm?

Selena: I always have lip gloss on hand, but I really like lip balm for a treatment or to put on my lips before I go to bed. No need to worry about any color smudges, just pure moisture. I don’t really use lip stick or lip stains.

10. What is your favorite food?

Selena: My favorite food would be pancakes for breakfast, wraps for lunch, and spaghetti for dinner. Forgot dessert! Dessert would be a layered chocolate cake and for a snack corn chips with spicy salsa! YUM!

11. What do you like about wordpress?

Selena: WordPress is one of the easier blog sites to use and you can do all sorts of things on here that one cannot do on other sites. I like the option of pictures and spell check. I love adding photos and I am not the world’s greatest speller seeing that I learned English as a second language. Although, English is my first language now, because I rarely use the other in America. I sort of forgot most of it, besides the basics.

My 11 Questions are:

1. What area of beauty are you most interested in? Make-up, skincare, etc?
2. Are you a savvy spender or an impulse buyer?
3. Do you overspend in the beauty department?
4. On average, how much do you spend on beauty products in a month?
5. Would you rather watch Fashion Week or Participate in it?
6. What is your go-to beauty item?
7. What is your holy grail beauty product?
8. Describe your go-to outfit on a regular casual day.
9. Who would your dream boyfriend be and why?
10. What is your favorite thing to do?
11. Do you classify yourself as weird or different from the norm?

Those are my questions! You better get crackin’ on the answers. Please comment and put your url response, so that I can read your answers!

Favorites: The Hair Edition

Heya Fellow Gurus!

Now that we are nearing the end of July and the unfortunate end of Julamorous, I thought that I would start off my favorites for the month of July. I always have so many favorites a month and choosing 5 in each category seems to be the way to go. These are my top 5 favorite hair products of July. I am always buying different hair products, whether it’s because of packaging brand, or type. I use a lot of hair products, because I enjoy styling my hair all different ways. My hair is medium length. It used to be mermaid long, but I wanted a change a year ago. My hair touches th bottom of my shoulder blades on my back. It’s a good length to style all different looks. My hair is dark blonde with highlights and low lights. My roots are on the brown side. but grows out dark blonde probably from the sun. I’m always outside enjoying the rays and my dogs. My hair tends to get oily on the scalp after the 2nd day of no washing. It is a bit on the fizzy side and is layered, although they are close to being grown out. I was my hair every 2 to 4 days depending upon the season, what I am doing, and if I have dry shampoo. So, without further ado, my top 5 hair picks of July are as follows:

hair favorites

dry shampoo
1. Dry Shampoo: My current love is TRESemme FreshStart Dry Shampoo Volumizing for fine/oily hair. First off, my hair is thick and not very fine. Due to my layers, it thins out the thickness, but it is still not fine by any means. I still love this spray though, because it soaks up all of the excess oil. I just wish that the formula was a bit more powdery. It is great for my darker roots though. I give it a 4 star performance out of 5. I just shake and do short bursts. I rub my hair to soak up the oil and I have lift and dry hair in no time.

frizz ease avon
2. Frizz Shield: I mentioned my frizz problem right? Well, you knew I would mention at least one product of this nature in my favorites. My current obsession is Avon Advance Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield For All Hair Types. I love using this one on my damp hair as a preventative measure. When I want sleek hair, I make ure to use this after a shower. It’s an oil like consistency, like a serum and I just comb the product through. I do not apply this to my roots, because I have oily hair. I give this 5 stars for performance. I do notice a difference in how sleek my hair is after using this. When I want super sleek hair though, I add something extra.

moroccanoil
3. Oil Treatment: Remember when I mentioned something extra? Yep, this is it. A hair oil tames away the frizz on my flat ironed or curled hair. My current favorite is M Moroccanoil for all hair types. This light weight oil is a great addition after styling my hair to fight the frizzes. I make sure to use a tiny amount and add the oil to my ends first before applying it to midshaft and down. Keep this away from roots! It can make your style look greasy and weighed down. This adds bounce and a great scent to my hair. I give this product 4 stars out of five for performance, because it can be greasy if you aren’t careful.

uvb sea spray
4. Beach Hair: Everyone loves beachy waves. They look boho and lock in the laid back feel of summer. My current love affair is with Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa UV Absorber Malibu Waves Spray For Hair. Let me start off by saying that the smell of this stuff is ah-mazing! It smells like summer in a bottle with citrus hints and real sea water. This is the best perfume for your hair! Not only does it smell fantastic, but it gives the best effortless beach waves. My hair is naturally wavy, a bt more on a curly side of the wave. So, I do not know if I am the best judge for beach wave sprays, but I find that it holds braid waves without the crunchy feeling of hair spray. I give this product 5 stars hands down. You will not be disappointed.

Hair Treatment: Wow, it seems that 3 of my favorites revolve around my frizz problem. lol. I did not plan it that way, I swear! My current love is Wen by Chaz Dean Sweet Almond Mint Re Moist Intense Hair Treatment. For the life of me, I can never smell the almond, but the peppermint smell is exhilarating. For the price, this stuff lasts a long time. I have used it a dozen times and haven’t made a dent in it. I scope out two half-dollar sized globes and start with the ends up to my roots being sure to comb everything through. I use this after the shower as an overnight treatment. I rinse it out the next day. It makes my hair really soft and smooth. I have been using this for 12 weeks and have enough for at least that many more. I use this every one to two weeks. This perks my hair up when it needs it. Heat tends to dry hair and the ocean. I make sure to use this after a day in the sun or ocean I give this 5 stars for performance and value for the price.

Well, those were my top 5 favorites for hair products. Stay tuned to see more favorites. I am open to suggestions, so please leave a comment. What are your favorite picks for July? Make a reply blog post and link it to my blog so I can see it. I would love to find a new hair obsession.

With Love,
Hannahxoxoxo

Mini Haul-Giveaways Recieved

Heya Fellow Gurus!

I entered into a few contests, since I started to blog more regularly in June. I’m happy to note that I have won four contests! So, this is my giveaway haul of all the things that I won from the ah-mazing Jen (http://shadowdancer.wordpress.com) here on wordpress. She has subscribed to countless subscription boxes, beauty or otherwise. So, be sure to check out her site to see what she thinks about each one. I know she is cutting her least favorites out. Now, I know which ones I should give a try and ones that I am glad I won’t be wasting money on. I am going to head right into the giveaway haul now, but I also did purchase something this week that I will be adding at the end.

giveaway haul

The package was neatly packaged and nothing got damaged during shipment. The whole thing smelled like perfume. *sigh* Lovely. It was a very pleasing smell. The big bag only had perfume in it, but I put everything else in there too for safe keeping until I put everything away. It got here surprisingly quick, which was a pleasant surprise to me. It made my day.

Satin bagged perfumePerfume samples

The perfume was in cute little satin bags and had 6 samples in each one. They were repeat samples, though. I always wanted to try the Oscar de la Renta perfume and now, I can. It is the Essential Luxuries line and I am excited to try them all!!!

Origins samples

I’ve always wanted to try something from Origins and now I can. I am an SPF addict and this will definitely be used up soon.

Philosophy

I love, love, love Philosophy! I am excited to try this scent. I heard that it smells true to life like cinnamon buns. I hope that’s true, because I love that smell. I have a vanilla cake flavor of the shower gel as well and it works great as a bubble bath.

Blushes Ferropink blush
bronzey blushblush swatches

These blushes are super pigmented and long wearing! I am wearing it now and it looks great on my skin tone. The pink one is called Suzie’s Glow and the bronzy one is Terra Cotta. I will use the bronze one more as a bronzer than a blush, since it is quite dark on my fair yellow undertone skin. The pink is on the left and the bronze on the right. Both are very flattering on my skin.

spf lotion

I purchased this at Ocean State Job Lot for 5 US DOLLARS. I needed an spf for my sensitive face and this one is supposed to be the best according to Danielle (http://daniellec1992.wordpress.com) for that type of issue.

Well, that’s it for today! Hope you enjoyed it!
