August 200 Pan

I am super duper late with this posting and my September 200 Pan post will be posting up pretty soon after this one. I just have been super busy with life that I have let certain posts slip through the cracks. I am trying to be better about it, but no promises. I’m trying to put together some review posts. Once again, my basket to review is filling up and I’d like to get on that before it gets too crazy. I’m pretty disappointed in what I was able to use up in August, but looking at my September pile, I don’t feel guilty about letting August get away from me. I was able to do so much in September. Part of my August, I was cleaning, organizing, and donating. In September, I continued to do this, but also school started up again with new classes, my interview happened, and I went through my makeup collection.

MISCELLANEOUS:

IMG_20180902_100431

Yup, my pictures are still crappy from my phone. I am hoping to get a new camera soon in October, because I miss taking pictures of my son.

MAKEUP:

IMG_20180902_100055

I got rid of two samples that were too dark and one that was bad after I opened it. It feels good to get rid of the clutter.

SKINCARE:

IMG_20180902_100142

We are finally getting into some empties that I can add to my yearly total. In July, we left off on 96/200 and now, we are up to 98/200 in this category. I am not counting the BareMinerals samples, but I am counting the Sunday Riley UFO oil and the Supergoop! Sunscreen Serum. I am glad to have both out of my collection. I think I will buy the Juno oil next by Sunday Riley. That 0.5 oz bottle lasted over 3 months of constant use. Before that, I used it for a year with a couple times of week usage. I think a brand new bottle would last around 5-6 months of constant every night use. So, the $40 price tag isn’t too hard for me. For 4 months, that’s $10 a month for a really great oil. The sunscreen serum was nice and I would consider repurchasing as it is better than regular sunscreen. There was no white cast and makeup/moisturizer went great on top of it.

Hair Care:

IMG_20180902_100234

Now, we are at 99/200 with the Wella Color Charm Toner. I redid my gray hair in September, but I toned it on the last few days of August to get out any yellow tones for a truer gray. It’s a bright natural gray. It shifts from grey to purple to brown like chrome. Once my gray fades out and I’m back with bleached blonde hair, I want to do a more blue gray like my Hilary Duff came back after having her son, which now she is pregnant with a girl, super excited! Anyway, I would use this Wella Toner again, except since I’m going less gray I would choose a different tone of toner. I am thinking the T10 for a pale blonde instead of ash. The sample conditioner I use to shave my legs with.

Body Care:

IMG_20180902_100332

And here we are 100/200 with this body care item that I used on Dean to keep his skin moisturized. This Target Up & Up baby ointment is the equivalent to Vaseline. I will not be repurchasing. It was a chore waiting for this to dry on him and he has slippery skin when trying to get him into clothes after a bath. I don’t even think it took away his dry patches on his arms and legs. It wasn’t worth the effort.

There you have it for August! I hit the halfway mark two months after the halfway mark of the year. I am looking forward to showing you all my September results which are very impressive. I am looking to keep the same momentum into October, but the one reason why September was so good is that I decluttered stuff from my makeup collection. Still, I feel proud of myself and I cannot wait to show you guys what I am talking about. I think by then, I will have a good camera. I think I’m getting it around the time that this post is going up. I’ll keep you updated.

With Love,

Selena

Project 200 Pan: July Update

To recap June, I have completed 35.5% of the project and that is 71/200 items. I needed a really good catch up month and I think this past July was the month for it. I was able to use up quite a lot of products, so I should be having at least a couple of review posts up in September from July. Right now as I am writing this, I am on my last week of the semester and I am finishing up two powerpoint presentations. I hate writing presentations. I am not good at them. I would much rather write a paper than do a presentation. I am not artistic and I just don’t have a flare for that sort of thing. Anyway, that’s completely off the topic. Let’s see what I was able to use up/declutter in the month of July that counts towards my 200 pan goal.

13 items to add to the project. I hit pan on the liquid lipstick from bareMinerals. I am currently trying to use the whole thing up now. At this point, I had to remove the stopper, which I count as “panning” lipsticks/lip glosses. The Mark lipgloss has gone bad as I was trying to use it up. Every time I use it too much, it dried out my lips and caused cracked lips with some bleeding. I used up one full sized eye liner and three deluxe sized samples. The Urban Decay dried out before I could use the whole thing. I depotted two color correctors and three eye shadows. I would never use the green or the orange correctors. The black, dark purple, and dark blue eye shadows are ones that I never wold have touched with my hooded eyes. I decluttered the purple glitter, because who am I kidding?! I am also decluttering the Sally Hansen leg makeup, because it looks orange and rubs off of my skin. 84/200

IMG_4206

Another 5 rounded up! I finished a full sized toner, eye serum, and eye cream. I finished up two deluxe sizes of eye cream and baby wash. I would repurchase the toner, but I can go without everything else seen here. 89/200

IMG_4207

7 products to add to my list. I didn’t see this bubble bath, so I didn’t repurchase. I would repurchase it though. I bought the Equate knock off of the little Aveeno baby tubs, but I think I prefer the $3 tubs. I do not think that they are created equal. The deodorant was really nice and I would repurchase it again at Marshalls. The Degree spray I would not repurchase. Another sunscreen. Might have a few more sunscreen empties by the end of summer and next year we will need to buy all new ones! 96/200

IMG_4077

I wanted to show you all Dean’s smile, because I love it! ❤ 96/200 is a really great way to catch up. I am 48% done with this challenge. I am so close to being half way down that I am smiling ear to ear. I really want to make it and have really put in the effort in July. I laxed in August, which you will see. So, I need to really step it up in September to make up for it by using up more of my stuff. I need to finish at least 10.4% of the challenge every month in order to complete it by the end of the year. So that would be like 20 products a month. I know that I won’t make it for August, but I will try to have an epic September like this month was. At this point, I don’t think that I will make it, but I am still going to have fun trying.

Selena

July Empties

My camera is still being a pain, but I will be buying a new one really soon. Please bare with me. I was able to take pictures in a dim corner with the flash on. I cannot wait for my new Kodak camera, but I am looking at reviews first to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the product first. I’m just surprised that a $200 camera that was 50% off wouldn’t last more than two years. Seems very strange to me. Anyway, I went through a lot of product in July, but so far August has been a bust. So, I guess it will even out seeing as I have a whole basket of empties here. I am excited to see just how many I have and what will count towards me empties goal of the year.

There you have it folks! I had 30 empties for the month of July! That even amazes me. lol. I didn’t think I had nearly as much as I did. Since I am already halfway through August, I cannot count my goals towards this month. So, I will talk about September’s goals. I would like to use up a few more makeup products. I have a bunch of primers on their last legs and I want to use them up. I also have two lip products that could be used up as well. I want to use up a lotion, a hair product, and a skin care one as well. I think these are modest goals for September. Most of my stuff rain out in July and I opened new things. Probably will explain why August will be so light.

5 Out: July

I wasn’t sure how to name these review posts. I knew that I want to title them 5 Out, but I didn’t know beyond that. I think that I will just name them with whatever month that we are currently in. Even though, these are items that I finished in May. It takes me awhile before I get around to blogging about them, but I am going to be better about it for sure. I have 5 more items waiting to be written about and I will do that right after this post. You might see two if these posts in July then, but they will be named the same.

IMG_3995

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

I liked this dry shampoo, but I would not repurchase it. I don’t think it absorbed enough oil in my hair. It still was a bit oily. If I sprayed a ton, it did leave a bit of a white cast, but you couldn’t really tell with my grey hair. It does not leave your hair feeling gritty and it does provide some volume. I think there are other dry shampoos that do a better job on oil hair. I have oily roots and this did a 50% job on day 2/3 hair. I need to find something affordable to work on my hair. The only dry shampoo I have found that works is Amika Perk Up. That stuff is amazing!

Victoria Secret’s PINK Coconut Mango 2-in-1 Wash & Scrub

The scent on this is to die for, but I will not be repurchasing. Somewhere along the way, VS has become non-cruelty free. I will continue to buy bras and such from them on sale, but no more beauty products. This was a great scrub, perfect for summer. It was very gritty like sand on the beach. It was like a beach in a bottle. I really enjoyed this scrub, but it is not as good as Tree Hut scrubs. Hopefully, I can get my hands on them at Marshall’s soon. You can always get VS on promotion, so never buy them full price like B&BW. It is not worth it.

Alba Botanica Acnedote Deep clean Astringent

Alcohol is the second ingredient, so I will not be repurchasing for that reason. It stung my skin if I used it after a drying mask. It was effective against acne, but there are less harsh things that work just as well. If this brand makes an alcohol free toner, I would buy it. I like to use a toner that also doubles as a morning cleanser or micellar water. It also had a strong smell that irritated my eyes and made them sensitive. I like that the ingredients are 100% vegetarian and that it contains no “bad” ingredients, except for the alcohol.

Dr. Brandt BB Cream Self-Adjusting Flawless Coverage SPF 30

I am decluttering this BB cream. It is not self-adjusting. It comes out super orange and muddy. I cannot wear this at all. I don’t know why I have this around still and it for sure went bad. It was a good idea if you have a medium skin tone or are tan. I will not purchase from Dr. Brandt, since he is not CF. I have never found a BB cream that matches my skin tone. When I think I am medium, I’m light. When I think I’m light, I’m fair. It is just a bit of a guessing game with most brands.

ELF Tone Correcting Powder in Cool

I am super sad that they discontinued the warm powder. I loved this powder. The only drawback is that the cool makes me overly pale and ghostly. I have warm yellow undertones, so it doesn’t really suit my skin tone. The only other negative is that the powder kept on getting hard pan on the blue and yellow side until I repressed it. The powder is finely milled and kept my skin oil free all day. I didn’t notice any benefit from the color correction, but I have yellow undertones. So, a purple color would have suited me better for a brightening effect. Overall, a great powder for 3 dollars.

Do you like this new review style? I think it works for my blog and makes my review posts more interesting. It does take awhile for me to write these posts, because I have to take the time to review each item. I hand write all of my reviews first before they appear on my blog. I like to get my feelings out on paper first before typing them up and adding a few bits and pieces that I forgot to mention. Even though I do online college, I still take notes in my notebooks. There is just something about putting ink to page that speaks to me and helps me remember. But maybe that is just the writer that is talking in me.

May Empties

I may be late sharing my empties, but I never knew how much I had to share in a month until I cut down my schedule to about 15 posts a month. I’ve been having to switch around the format of my posts and so this one is coming up later in the month than what I like. I basically sit down two Sundays a month now and write posts. I now have two Sundays a month free for classes. I only work on my blog for about 4 hours a month. That only includes writing the posts, not taking the pictures and coming up with the ideas. I am happy with this new pace of my blog. It makes it so I can be a well-rounded person and have time for everything that I want to have time for. It is nice to know that when life gets hectic, I generally have a week or two already planned out on my blog.

IMG_3989

You hear about these every month, so I am cutting out the drinks that I purchase without fail every month. You know that I love them or else I wouldn’t have featured them for over a year here on my blog.

Well, I had a lot more empties than I had originally thought. I cannot wait to do my progress update on my 200 pan goal. I have been working on my pictures and I hope you can tell a difference. I think it looks more professional and I have added a bit of brightness to the pictures themselves by staging some lightening. Since I have a bit more time, I thought that I would put more effort into the picture taking themselves. I have a feeling that my empties will be slowing down, because I am running out of mini things. I still have a whole bunch of samples that I need to get through though. I hope you enjoyed looking through my trash today. Reviews are to come. 🙂

Beauty, Haul, Lifestyle

Bought Recently

I wanted to show you what I have picked up lately. It is not real exciting stuff, but just stuff that I needed to restock on. I promise that I don’t usually buy a ton of stuff. It just seems that way from all of the posts that I have been putting off making of stuff that I have purchased months ago. Like still in their boxes stuff that I haven’t touched, because I am all like I am going to haul that stuff. I don’t feel like I should touch it to remind myself to write the post. LOL. Also, usually it takes me months to put together a post like this, because I don’t buy for myself very often. I just don’t have the money to.

Crest 3D White LUXE Diamond Strong Toothpaste

toothpaste

I needed a new toothpaste and this one is a well known brightener and strengthen the enamel on your teeth. I do notice that my teeth are whiter, but I would need the whitening strips to get a really white smile. I might get the smallest white strips kit, because I just want to boost my smile. This toothpaste is great though and I really enjoy it. I would not actively repurchase this. I only bought it, because Tom’s was out of stock. Crest is not bunny approved, which is why I only bought it when my other option was out of stock. Hopefully, they are in stock next time I need toothpaste.

L’Oreal Colorista in Pink

This is a semi permanent hair color that washes out within a dozen shampoos. I used it on my brassy blonde ends and it looked more burnt red than pink. When I get bored of my grey, I will use it on my non-brassy white blonde hair to give it a proper review.

Alba Botanica Acne Dote Toner

toner

I really enjoy this toner and it is cruelty free. I am going to see what else my Marshall has today on my day off. I am also stopping at Sephora for my birthday gift. I would rebuy this toner for the $5 that I spent on it. I need to see if they have anything with less alcohol in it though. I don’t find this too drying on my oil skin but my skin has been less oily more combination lately.

Thermos Thermocafe

IMG_3583

I needed a good thermos for bringing my coffee to work or the shakes that I make at home. It is also great for holding smoothies as well. I just needed something for when I want to do the extra effort.

Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Treatment Shampoo

IMG_3724

So, I already shared with you that I accidentally got the conditioner instead of the shampoo. Now, I finally have the shampoo and I do like it. I use it every time I wash my hair which is once to twice a week. I do my Shimmer Lights treatment once a week where I leave it on for 30 minutes to maintain my non brassy hair. I do like this cruelty free brand and will repurchase this set in the future. I also want to get the leave in spray in this line once I run out of some leave in conditioner that I am already using.

That is it for this little recap haul. As you can see, most of these things I can write little review on them, I have had them for so long. I am using Dean’s nap to my advantage by writing on my blog. I don’t like to take time away from him when he is awake. One of the many reasons why I am so happy he naps in his own bed now and not with me. I love it when he takes a nap with me when I have a migraine. Nothing like a little warm body next to you to make you feel better.

February Empties

I have another month of empties to share with all of you. I used up a lot of items this month and I am hoping to finish up even more in March. My skincare cabinet has a bit of room to it now. My first thought was to bring in more items from my back stock, but I have refrained from doing that so far. I wanted to bring in another face mask, but I already have 5 open. lol. I love skin care products, but I am trying to convince myself that a little bit of room is good to be able to comfortably reach everything without knocking bottles over.

Gosh, 41 items in the month of February is a lot of items to get through in a very short month. I am very excited to see what March brings. So far, my basket is empty, but that was how Feb started and I ended up with 41 empties. I love getting rid of so much stuff and not wasting it either. I am excited to see how many of these items count towards my Project 200 pan. I feel like at this rate, 200 might be a real achievable goal for me. If I reach it too soon, then I will up my goal depending upon how many months are left in the year.

July Empties *Day 19*

Another month has gone and with it many products that I have loved, hated, or just felt “meh” about. My goal was 15 empties and I think I may have achieved that goal, but I am not 100% certain. I am going to keep the goal of 15 more empty products for August. I think that is a realistic goal to give myself and I seem to be flying through products more since I told myself that if I really love it, I can rebuy it at my next paycheck. I haven’t loved anything enough to repurchase yet. I am almost done with a drugstore setting powder though and I will be needing to pick up a powder this week. Well, let’s start counting! Oh! BTW, this post features pictures of Dean’s arms and legs. He wanted to eat the yellow bag!

Well, I got pretty darn close in completing my goal of 15 empties for the month. I still consider it a win, since the past few months have been pitiful with the amount of empties. Maybe, I will reach my goal in August. I’m proud of myself though. I’m using up and letting go of so much stuff that took up space. I even had room to put more products in my bathroom. It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do that. It great to try new things from my stash.

Sample Wednesday: Avene

For Avene Eau Thermale Thermal Spring Water

Toner: Eau Thermale Avene

What It Is: A soothing, softening, hypoallergenic water spray toner for sensitive skin.

Key Ingredient: This only has two ingredients: water and nitrogen. Nitrogen is not good for the environment, so I would not buy this for myself personally. At least, this has skin yummy ingredients and no harsh chemicals. Hurrah!

How It Feels/Smells/Looks: The spray toner is scent-free and feels refreshing on the skin. It is a clear, powerful sprayer. It does not give a fine mist. It gives a “harder” mist that is still delicate enough not to leave your face dripping. It is hard to explain, but I found the mist to be more fine than its non-aerosol counterparts that can spray a “glob” of water on your face and ruin your makeup.

Why I Like It: I found this toner to be refreshing on a hot summer’s day, but it did not do anything special for my skin. I would not repurchase it mainly, because I want my toners to actually “do” something or to be beneficial to my skin in some way. I am also trying my own hand at mixing up toners with different levels of success. I may actually have found the perfect formula and I’ll let you guys know as soon as I have confirmed that. Anyway, this toner was nice to try out and was very cooling during the warm summer months.

Tone What?

The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner
12 US DOLLARS
8.4 fl oz

Toner

3 out of 5 stars

FTC Disclaimer: All opinions are my own and I purchased this with my own money.

1. Usage: I shake up this toner really well, so that the corn starch on the bottom will mix up with the rest of the toner. I saturate a cotton pad/ball and lightly drag it across my entire face. I pat the pad/ball on spots that need extra skin clearing power, mainly over spots and blackheads. I found it very inconvenient to always have to vigorously shake up the bottle every im I wanted to use it. I’d rather have less hassle with my beauty products, but if it gave me results, I was willing to give it a shot. I used this toner everyday twice a day, until I used it all up. I gave it a fair chance. It has lasted me almost five months of use, so you definitely get your money’s worth out of this product. 4 out of 5 stars

2. Packaging: The packaging is very simple with a clear plastic bottle, nothing fancy about it. I rather like simple packaging, because you spend money for the product, not the package it comes in. I like that I can recycle this, but there is no recycling program in my town. Many grocery stores have recycling bins though, so I save my stuff and toss it in there. I never knew about this before, but then, I saw one the other day at Wal-Mart. Now, I just keep my things in plastic bags: one for plastic, metal, and glass. Usually, the bin just says recyclable and I just throw the lot in. Some are specific stating only plastic, though. 5 out of 5 stars

3. Scent: This product has a strong earthy, herbal scent. I have been told that tea tree is not supposed to have a scent and that it does have a scent. This isn’t pure tea tree oil, so I cannot state if that is true or not. This product does have a strong scent, but it quickly dissipates into nothing, plus the scent of my lotion and spf would cover it up anyway. This isn’t the best scent in the world, but it doesn’t bother me. You get used to the scent. 3 out of 5 stars

4. Performance: I would not say that this is a miracle product for me by any means and I’m not going to say that it helped my acne either. It performed like a normal toner by clearing the surface of my skin of any extra dirt or cleanser after cleansing. It has a nice tingle sensation that tells you that it is doing “something” to my skin. I expected more from this product, but at least it performed like an average toner in the regards that it cleared the surface of the skin. 2 out of 5 stars

5. Ingredients: This contains alcohol, which is drying for the skin and is something I want to stay away from. My current toner doesn’t contain alcohol. I will be doing a skin care post soon, possibly tomorrow. This also contains castor oil and I am avoiding oil, because it’s not good for only skin and I’ve heard that using oils on your face ages you faster. I’m in my twenties. I want to stay that way for a while. It also contains caramel, which is linked to cancer. I have stopped drinking soda with this additive in it like Coke and Pepsi because of it. Any brown soda has been eliminated from my diet, even though I loved my once a week Coke. It’s now a once a week Mountain Dew or Arizona Tea. Anyways, cancer is bad. I do not want anything linked to cancer on my skin or in my body. Dyes are bad, I know, but in this toner, it is the lesser of all evils. This summer I have become ingredient conscious, but I don’t want to waste money and throw out all of my old stuff. So, I am using it all up and when I buy new ones, I am ingredient conscious and try to make the right decisions for me. I took 30 minutes in the store selecting the right spf. It’s why I choose to research products first before I buy them. I take less time in the store that way. 1 out of 5 stars

6. Results: The reason why this product didn’t work for me is most likely due to all the bad ingredients mixed with a few good ones. It was the wrong combination for my skin. It didn’t do anything for my acne, but it also didn’t make my face physically different as far as I know. My skin had the same amount of acne and nothing changed. At east, it didn’t harm my skin that I know of. I have since gotten my acne under control, but this product didn’t do anything for me. 1 out of 5 stars

Overall, I give this product 2.6 stars out of 5. I cannot recommend this to anyone, because I feel uncomfortable doing so knowing the ingredients. If ingredients do not bother you, I still wouldn’t recommend, because it did nothing for me. You are better off looking for something else. This product was a major miss for me at The Body Shop.
